What shall we do?? Or: Is there any avoiding them?
by Max Divergent inwe escaped jw'dom a few years ago and have recently bought a home about 250km from where we lived about 10 years ago.. near encounters of the third kind.
imagine my fright in the local hardware mega-store when i just managed to dodge a sister from our old congo in the poaint section!!!!
that night, i put on the tv and the commercial for a firm of builders i'd thought of using came on - the local contact was the sister's husband!!!

Got me bloody well thinking...
by Max Divergent ini was visiting at a hospital and was in the elevator with a patient who was being transfused with a bag of bright red blood on the way back from an operation; i was mildly surprised to see the patient was old sister barbara who used to have our book study at her house!
i guessed it was cell saver blood as it's deemed ok against acts 15, but it was still weird to see a sis getting a blood transfusion.
it got me to thinking how a simple statement in acts (and the other scriptures) could be the source of so many (illogical but un-challengeable/un-discussable) rules and fine distinctions (enforced by strict penalties) as defined and amended from time to time in the watchtower...

A question for peaceniks and warmongersÂ…
by Max Divergent inafter all the discussion recenly and the seeming welcome the troops got in baghdad i'd be interested in your thoughts...
q: would you support your country's government if they proposed committing troops and tax money to a long-term program with a coalition of the willing* to:
1. remove all the very worst and most aggressive regimes from controlling sovereign nations by all necessary means which may include initiating war

Bali, Terrorism, Iraq, War, My Town
by Max Divergent ina few weeks ago there were heated discussions here along the lines that "if your city was attacked by terrorists, you'd want to attack iraq too" v's "iraq hasn't done anything (big) wrong yet, don't invade".
i'm from perth, western australia and last weekend 30-40 or even more perth people died in a c4 and (apparently) napalm car bomb attack at a nightclub in bali (hence the burns).
bali's not perth, but there are very, very close links between the people of perth and the people of bali built over many years, illustrated by maybe a quarter or a third of the fatalities being from perth.

What I figured on Jehovah...
by Max Divergent inwhen i was leaving i figured that jehovah is one of these things: .
2. exists but is different to how the wts describe him (her, them, it...), .
3. exists as the wts describes him and is deeply saddened and angered by the inequities and sins committed by his name people but extends to them benevolence and forgivness unconditionally, .

Survey result: JW views on Homosexuality
by Max Divergent inwere you more liberal that your jw peers?.
a 2001 survey asked for a response to the statement: "i believe homosexuality is immoral".
based on the religion of the respondents, it found that found that 84% of jws responded 'yes', compared to 20% of jews, 30% of 'no religion', and 48% of americans and 36% of australians overall.
